Join us virtually for a workshop where we will explore how to bring unfolding events into the classroom, and model adaptable strategies that foster thoughtful classroom conversations.

Our single professional learning sessions are designed to easily fit into your day. Typically one hour or less, these sessions explore timely and relevant topics including teaching strategies, current events, and more.

How to make meaningful connections between current events and your curriculum
Teaching ideas for addressing breaking news and ongoing issues

Teaching current events can be challenging: the news cycle moves quickly, stories are complex, and unfolding events can spark strong emotions. But engaging with current events is an essential part of educating young people to be informed and humane citizens in a democracy.

Join Facing History & Ourselves in a virtual workshop as we explore tools and strategies that help educators organize discussions on current events in their classrooms, develop young peoples’ capacity to examine issues from multiple perspectives, and think critically about the world around them. This workshop will feature content, pedagogy, and resources for addressing the question of how we can prepare students to actively engage with the world outside our school walls.

CTLE hours will be provided upon completion of the two part series for NY educators and Certificates of Attendance will be provided for New Jersey educators.

But in analyses that focus primarily on the role of white nationalism fomented within media echo chambers, for example, commentators have overlooked what may be a more pervasive parallel phenomenon: the widespread crisis of faith in U.S. media and institutions at large.

A recent poll found that 52% of young people between 18 and 29 believe that either US democracy is "in trouble" or "failed," while only 7% agree that it is "healthy," further highlighting the need to teach students about democratic institutions.
