This professional learning event will be led by Facing History staff. When you register, you will receive instructions for how to attend the event.
This event qualifies for Certificate of Completion.
At the conclusion of viewing the webinar, participants can download a Certificate of Completion for one hour of attendance. Certificates may be submitted for a school’s or district’s approval towards professional development credits. Requirements for professional development credits vary by state. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of their school, organization, and/or state.
Literature has the power to build our capacity for empathy, shared understanding, and stronger communities. Facing History & Ourselves selected George Takei’s graphic memoir, They Called Us Enemy, for a 2023-2024 All Community Read. During this webinar, we discussed what freedom means in a democracy – during World War II and today. Educators received Facing History resources and strategies for teaching historical context, perspective-taking, ethical reflection, and cultivation of empathy in order to nurture students’ capacity for informed and engaged citizenship
